Miss Watt was very strict with the conditions of let on the estate and from time to time find it necessary to remove people she objected to:
"Miss Watt has today requested me to write to you in reference to the family of Pelluces who are now occupying the above cottage. Miss Watt will thank you to have these people removed without delay, as she has several times refused to let them have a cottage in the village, in consequence of their objectionable habits"
However, gamekeepers, bailiff's and the lodge keeper all lived in rent free accommodation and widows were allowed to stay on at half rents. At Christmas each cottager received a new blanket, a load of coal and a round of beef from Home Farm.
